Theatre, community and creative freedom
Thank you for joining us last evening and spending time watching the performance and talking with us.
As part of the CULTURE OF FREEDOM program, we gathered for Kana Theatre's "Sit Down Tragedy" – a performance that was created as an expression of our disagreement with the injustices present in public spaces. We wanted to express our anger, stand up for our principles and values, and send a clear signal that we are not indifferent. The performance became a starting point for reflection on what theatre is today and what its social role is.
After the performance, a meeting was held: "Theater – Community or Field of Conflict?" Between Dialogue and Resistance. About Creative Freedom in Theatre. This was an invitation to a conversation about artistic freedom, the responsibility of artists, and the tensions that arise where theatre meets reality. Thank you for your openness, diverse perspectives, and participation in the dialogue.
The discussion was moderated by Marta Gosecka (Contemporary Theatre), and the invited guests included Bibianna Chimiak, actress; Dominika Łabędź, visual artist and lecturer at the Academy of Art in Szczecin; Jakub Skrzywanek, theatre director; and Krzysztof Popiołek, theatre director.
Thank you for creating this shared space of mindfulness, conversation, and presence with us. It is thanks to you that theatre truly becomes a place of encounter, not just an event.
